The Bristol community is invited to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and Bristol’s Revolutionary War–era history on Federal Hill on June 14, from 1 to 4pm.

The event will feature a variety of attractions for families.

The Ye Olde Lebanon Towne Militia will present drill exercises, activities for kids, demonstrations of encampment skills, and a volley. Learn what life was like for Revolutionary War soldiers both in battle and at camp and see samples of the items that they made along the way.

The first Connecticut State Troubadour Tom Callinan will perform, including songs he has written about Bristol history. He takes the stage at the Federal Hill gazebo at 1pm and plays until 2pm. Other stage events include a staged debate between a Revolutionary War supporter and a Tory, and Bristol’s Poet Laureate Tom Lagasse.

A pie baking contest will be held, judged by local restaurant owners. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place. If you want to enter your cherry or apple pie in the contest, the rules at contact information can be found here: Americal250 Pie Baking Contest Rules.

Local organizations will have tables with activities and information for kids and adults. The Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services Department will provide children’s games. The First Congregational Church and St. Joseph Catholic Church will be providing tours throughout the program.

Food trucks will be on site, and Bristol Brass and Wind will be holding an ice cream social event to raise funds for their organization.

Some of the prize-winning 8th grade history projects will be on display and awards will be handed out to the winners.

Parking is available on a first come, first serve basis at the First Congregational Church, the St. Joseph parking lots (after the end of their 12pm service) and at the Bristol Historical Society for those able to walk up the hill. This event happens rain or shine.
