Learn how these early-American craftsmen influenced Bristol’s greater industrial image. \nThe presenter will be Tom Vaughn\, the Coordinator of Music\, Arts and Performance at Old Sturbridge Village\, Vice President at the Plymouth Historical Society\, and all-around Renaissance man. \nThe program is free to members\, with a $5 suggested donation for nonmembers. SUMMARY:Bristol BSA Scouters' Reunion
DESCRIPTION:On June 10\, Connecticut Open House Day\, the Bristol Historical Society will be hosting a Bristol BSA Scouters’ Reunion. Bristol has always been a scouting-enthusiastic city. For many years scouting was so big in Bristol that it was its own council. The 1960 Annual Scouters’ Day dinner program in the Bristol Historical Society collection lists 45 units; Cub packs\, Boy Scout troops\, Adventure posts\, and even a Sea Scout ship! Plan to come to the Bristol Historical Society to view a display of Bristol-related scout memorabilia. \nFrom 10am to 2pm\, visit a display of Bristol-related Scout memorabilia. At 2pm\, join us at the First Congregational Church for a live program of fun followed by a cracker barrel social hour. \nVisit the Facebook Group “Bristol BSA Scout History” to get a preview of what is in store for the reunion and please join the group if you like. From Silpah\, a slave belonging to local farmer William Jerome\, to Philena Skinner Peck and Erma Funk\, Bristol has many interesting\nwomen who made history. Doors will open at 6:30. Seating is limited to the first hundred that enter. Admission is free for BHS members and Girl Scouts/girls under 18 and their parents or guardians; a $5 donation is requested for non-members. SUMMARY:West Cemetery Lantern Tour
DESCRIPTION:After a two-year hiatus\, the popular West Cemetery Lantern Tour is returning on Friday\, September 30 and Saturday\, October 1. The event is sponsored by the Bristol Cemetery Commission and co-sponsored by the Bristol Historical Society. For those who have not attended in previous years\, during this evening guided walk through West Cemetery\, you will be introduced to some notable cemetery “residents” who will share some of their history with attendees. This is an engaging way to spend an evening and learn a little Bristol history.\nTours will step off at 6:50pm\, 7:10pm\, 7:30pm\, 7:50pm\, 8:10pm\, and 8:30. Limited space (8 people per tour) is also available during an earlier tour at 6pm with motorized transport on both days for those who have limited mobility or prefer a daylight option. If there is significant interest\, an additional daylight slot may be added.\nThe rain date for both days is October 2.
